#NVT7
In November of 2020, I had the great opportunity to take place in the 7th iteration of Now Voice This. NVT is a global competition for Voice Actors, with the ultimate prize being a paid studio gig!
Here’s my first entry, the prompt was “This is my OC!” so I played my character from a D&D campaign I streamed with some of my friends (you can find all that at the PlusFiveProficiency link too!)
So imagine my surprise when I made it through. 2500+ people down to around 750. Wow. The Prompt this time was, “Let the Sunshine in” and I had trouble visualizing the prompt till it hit me, and you’ll see how in the video below
Then, bam. Quarterfinals. Wow. Okay, beginners luck. Cool. Whatever. 750 to around 550 participants, not a huge cut but I still made it. The Prompt this time is, “This is a [blank] [blank]” and it was suggested to use Predictive text to fill it in. I decided to showcase how fast I can switch between cadence and voices (playing a lot of Phoenix Wright on stream helped with this a lot)
Then, from 500-ish to…250? For the Semifinals. Holy crap, it’s still luck I’m saying to myself. The prompt this time is, “Dungeons & Dragons & Blank” and I hit my concept early on (but don’t listen to this at work without headphones due to it being a little loud and for content)
And now, we’re at the finals. Top 25 people out of the 2500+ originally. First time. My verbiage fails me as the rounds progress in just how to express my gratitude. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my famiy and friends. This prompt was the longest by far, two minutes. “Folktale from the year 2320” and I took a few days to get my concept in before I started writing. This also required the most polish (it’s the finals after all!) And while I ended up not being picked #1, I still placed quite high amongst the top 25
